An essential part of convergence is the ever increasing role that internet and telecommunications play in the delivery of audio visual entertainment, news and information. Fiji is well placed to take advantage of this. The Southern Cross Cable Network directly connects Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Hawaii to the west coast of the United States. This network allows for the transfer of a massive 120 gigabytes per second. Several feature length movies can be transmitted per minute.
To assist Fiji in becoming an IT audio visual hub there are incentives allowing between 125% and 150% tax concessions on the amount invested in qualifying audio visual computer software, interactive websites, e-commerce and telecommunications operations.
