TV Show To Produce Series In Fiji
Suva, February 2009 - The Fiji Audio Visual Commission (FAVC) today announce the production of a new TV series in Fiji.
FAVC's Chairperson, Sharon Smith-Johns said "The series, which is currently not named, will be shot in Vunuku, Kadavu." It will be produced for the "Building Green" program and will be shown on the PBS Channel in the United States, and likely distributed in New Zealand and Australia.
"Building Green" is a pioneering and entertaining television show with an eco-friendly twist. "The program is on a mission to inspire viewers to discover how easy, cost-effective and healthy it can be to go green, and dispel myths about environmentally- conscious lifestyles," said Ms. Smith-Johns. The first season is well documented on the www.buildinggreentv.com website.
The host of the show is Kevin Contreras, who leads an interactive exploration of green building techniques and alternatives, from eye-popping extreme to the green mainstream, all the time demonstrating that healthy choices don't mean sacrificing style or comfort.
The production on Kadavu will focus on the design and construction of several models using sustainable "green" products and techniques at the 34 bure SPA resort, designed and supplied by Bali Built Homes, LLC. For the production, Building Green will bring in eight crew members from the United States and a substantial number of locals will be directly involved. Landowners and villagers from Drue Village will also play an active role in this production. A dedicated website, www.Vunuku.com will be updated regularly with the resort's construction progress and its documentation for the TV series.
"The Building Green production company is bringing a small crew to Fiji and will be looking to hire local crew as well as utilize film industry-related support services available in Fiji," said Ms. Smith-Johns. This, she added complements an important part of the FAVC's function which is to develop a strong infrastructure and a local services support base, hence enabling a strong film production environment.
Representatives of the production company will be visiting Fiji for 5 days from March 17 to firm up production schedules and other preparatory work. The series will begin shooting a Design Charette from April 19th to 26th. The Design Charette will lay out the plans for a completely sustainable infra-structure as well as a master plan for the proposed buildings. It will include all of the parties involved with the project from local contractors, Vunuku's Mataqali, Drue Village, the Chiefs, and the Fiji Government to world-class eco-experts. Everyone's voice will be heard and honored. The goal of the Charette is to end in unanimous agreement and a clear understanding on how to proceed in creating the finest sustainable resort/spa in the world.
"Given that the series will be distributed in the US, New Zealand and Australia later this year or the beginning of 2010, Fiji will receive great exposure and the potential for spin-offs will be enormous," said Ms. Smith-Johns.
