Hawaiian Crew Produces Environment Documentary in Fiji
Suva, June 2010 - "Miss South Pacific: A Documentary about Climate Change," a film on the impact of climate change has just completed shooting in Fiji.

The Fiji Audio Visual Commission's (FAVC) Acting Chief Executive Officer, Florence Swamy said, "The documentary made is about the impact of climate change on Fiji and other South Pacific Island nations in a film that tells the story of the 2009 Miss South Pacific pageant and its theme "Preserving Our Environment The Pacific Way". The documentary, produced by Hawaiian Documentary filmamker, Teresa Tico, was directed by renowned Hollywood director, Mary Lambert. Ms Lambert has been responsible for all creative decisions for the film.

The producers plan to have a final cut of the documentary ready by early September in order to meet the submission deadline for some high profile film festivals. One such film festival which the producers are aiming at submitting the film to is the Sundance Film Festival. Film Festivals, she added, are highly competitive and only a small percentage of films are accepted.

Ms. Swamy added that the FAVC was particularly pleased that this documentary, which will be screened at many film festivals and eventually broadcast in different jurisdictions, will be telling a story on a tropical issue such as climate change which has worldwide interest. The documentary provides us with an international platform through which raise our concerns and via a popular medium such as films. Ms. Swamy said further that, "the reputation that we have created in hosting the production of TV shows, films & documentaries and the tremendous exposure that we will get once the shows aired in the various countries will no doubt attract other producers with similar productions to Fiji."

Ms. Swamy commented that through this documentary, Fiji will receive great exposure and the potential for spinoffs will be enormous. "Having a documentary directed by a person of the caliber of Ms Lambert will definitely result in Fiji being potrayed to the world at its best," said Ms. Swamy. And with Ms Lambert now having visited Fiji and having seen our many attractive locations, we of course now have an influential friend that can promote Fiji to producers in Hollywood, added Ms. Swamy.
