Suva, June, 2011 - The Fiji Audio Visual Commission (FAVC) is pleased to announce that "Miss South Pacific: A Documentary About Climate Change", shot in Fiji last year, won the Audience Award for Best Environmental Documentary and the Grand Jury Award for Best Environmental Film at the Film Festival of Colorado recently.
The documentary is about the impact of climate change on Fiji and other South Pacific Island Nations in a film that tells the story of the 2009 Miss South Pacific pageant and its theme “Preserving Our Environment the Pacific Way”. It was produced by Hawaiian documentary filmmaker, Teresa Tico, and was directed by renowned Hollywood director, Mary Lambert. Ms. Lambert has been responsible for all the creative decisions for the film.
This documentary will next be screened at the Woods Hole Film Festival in Cape Code, Massachusetts, amongst other film festivals, and plans are also underway for a fundraiser screening for the Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation on Oahu in September this year. Through the continued screening of this documentary at these and other film festivals, Fiji will receive great exposure and the potential for spin-offs will be enormous.
