Record Number of Films In The 2011 Kula Film Awards
Entries are now in for the 2011 FAVC Kula Film Awards and the public can see 33 films great films produced by young budding filmmakers; students in schools around Fiji, 5 films from schools in Tonga and 6 films from amateur filmmakers.
Commenting on the entries, FAVC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Florence Swamy said that the FAVC is delighted with the number and quality of the entries received this year. The entries, Ms. Swamy added, reflected the awareness that youths had of the major issues affecting them. The films she said were an outlet for them to voice their opinions on some very topical issues. Also, the manner in which these views were articulated and presented through the short films showed the ability of our youths to channel their views through creative media. All these, Ms Swamy said augurs well for the future development of the film industry in Fiji, as it still is, to a large extent, dependant on the availability of creative talents locally.
The winners will be announced at an Awards Night on July 30, 2011 at the National Gymnasium. The main Award is the FAVC 2011 Kula Best Film. Other categories in which prizes will be awarded are the FNU Best Actor, FNU Best Actress, Vodafone Best Director, FBC Best Original Music, the FAVC Best Script, and the FAVC Most Popular Film.
